"Excuse me," there was knock at the front door. A head peeped in; the door wasn't locked, "Is Nina visiting?"
"It's my sister!" Nina was on her second sandwich as she gasped and a piece dropped out of her mouth. "Thanks for the food!" She stood up from her chair. She looked at his side of the table. "Hey, Andrew..." he only nibbled on the edges of the bread.
"Hmm? Oh, you can just leave the plate in the sink, thanks." You didn't finish your food.
~~~
Andrew walked the sisters to the front door. "Huh? You want me to come see the New Year fireworks with you?" Nina's sister and Andrew stood there chatting at the front door, "Well, won't I be in the way of the whole family?"
"It's absolutely okay! Right Nina?" She pulled her little sister over and used her head as an arm rest.
"Huh?!"
"Don't you want to start your new year with you beloved?" Her sister whispered to Nina. The little girl froze; her face was beet red. She didn't retaliate. "Do! Definite kill! Gather your courage! Be a brave kid!" Her sister, Mina, cheered her on in the background. She had a hobby of teasing her younger sister.
"Umm," the you girl staggered over to the adult man, "It's going to be our first time going to the fireworks in this town, so we don't really know where it is. If we're all together with Andrew, I think we'd feel better."
"Alright then, if you put it that way," he smiled gently.
"You said it! It's a promise then!" Mina interjected energetically. "Awesome! Let's go, Nina." The eleven year old turned around.
"Ah! That's right! Andrew," She ran back to him, "Will you promise to keep yourself warm today and go to sleep soon?"
He chuckled, "Yeah, sure."
"Thank you! See you again tomorrow!" Nina ran back to her sister.
~~~
It's been a long time since I last saw fireworks with on New Years with Andrew.
~~~
"Thanks sis!" She laughed.
"You owe me your pudding."
"Eh?!"
Story Time with Dolce! Part 10
From earlier, "Where would I place the staple remover?" Nina asked.
"Oh yeah, I forgot about that. The draw in that room is fine," he pointed at an out of place nightstand with only three drawers. She pulled out the bottom one. Hmm? There was a old crumpled piece of paper laying in the center. Is this trash? If it is, I wonder if it'll be okay to throw it away... The little girl picked it up and began to unfold it. Might be...
She froze.
It was an old photo of Hillary and Andrew by the lake.
~~~
It's from that time.
~~~
"Let's come see the swans again."
They unpacked the lunches Hillary made,"Woah, aren't these sandwiches too big? You used five pieces of bread and four different ingredients! This is too much!" The girl beside his had already hug into her sandwich, chomping away happily.
~~~
He still has it....
~~~
Yoink.
Andrew drew the picture out of her hands. "Huh?" She turned around, "I'm sorry!" She didn't look up, "I just... that photo..." She couldn't find the right words. The little girl pursed her lips.
Andrew smiled solemnly, "Look," he handed the photo back to Nina, "You can look it at, only because it's you." She took the paper from his hands., "But don't look at it for too long. It's embarrassing." He looked away smiling sheepishly, "I was young."
~~~
Andrew is...
~~~
Nina handed the picture back to him and he put it back into the drawer, "In the past I went to the lake with her. Only once though," his smile went from sheepish to sad.
~~~
Even now, he still remembers Hillary and recalls memories of her. It would be nice if i could say, "I was Hillary in my previous life." But if I said that, how...

"Let's go then, before the apple pie gets cold."

I won't say it.

It's been eleven years since that story at swan lake. - Nina Doyle, 11 years old.

Creak...
"Ugh, I can't reach it," A little girl stood on a stood on her toes, reaching for the stapler remover at the top of a calendar. POP! It came out! And she began to fall. "Uwaahh!"
Thud.
"Hey, don't push yourself too hard." Nina looked to see Andrew.
"Andrew!"
"Leave the high places to me, because big brother don't need a footstool," the little girl blushed and wigged her way safely out of his harms and onto the ground.

He took out the rest of the staples, "Hand me a new calendar," he held out his large hand.
"Uh! Yeah!" She frantically rummaged through to box of items she had brought to the room earlier. She handed him the stapler and he stapled the updated calendar back into the wall, "Great! We finished cleaning!" She clapped her hands and flailed happily.
"Good work. That was fast," he smiled, "It's thanks to Nina for working so hard," he reached out and pet her her head, "Okay, it's time for a snack!"
"YAY!"

In this town, back at the house of Andrew's previous girlfriend, we were reunited. I have my memories as Hillary Simmons intact, and fell in love with him for a second time.

Story Time with Dolce! Part 8
In the spring of my third year of middle school, I went flower viewing with my boyfriend to the neighboring tow's lake.
~~~
"Of course the swans aren't here anymore. They've already migrated out of there."
"I wanted to see them. To bad..." Andrew sighed.
"Look, look!" Hillary picked up something, "Could this be a swan feather?" It was white and fluffy. "Did you know, swans that are joined together do not separate? If one is unable to return the other one will remain alone."
"Is that so..." He locked back out to the pond, "If it were you, I'd feel like flying to you immediately," of course he didn't look her in the eye when he said this.
"That's a given, huh?"
"It's not 'that's a given, huh'!!" he whined.
"Flying... with a stock full of bait, I'll make sure to return to your side," she smiled at him, tapping his head with the white feather.
He blushed, pulling her into his arms, "When winter comes, let's come here together again."
"... yeah, it's a promise."
~~~
But... when winter came, she wasn't here anymore.
Hillary Simmons died at fifteen years old, and so, I couldn't fulfill that promise.

Story Time with Dolce! Part 7
Nina stood alone on the sky bridge overlooking a busy intersection, as she stared into the sunset. She turned out all of the sounds of passing cars. She tilted her head down and grumbled, frustrated at herself.
She sighed. "I guess I should go home..." She walked down the stairs with a mother, holding the hand of a toddler with a yellow balloon. As she walked past, she saw the toddler struggle to take each step up. Good luck. She smiled.
"Ah!" he let go of his balloon. The boy released his mother's hand and turned backwards, reaching out for the string. His light up tennis shoes caught on the step. The mother turned around shocked and on the verge of tears. everything slowed down.
~~~
Huh? For some reason this feels like deja-vu...
~~~
Her body moved on it's own, reaching out for the falling child, holding him in her arms as she flew down the stairs.
Thud.
Her eyes were open, but it took a second to actually see. Nina felt arms wrap around her. She could hear the sound of heavy breathing, panting. It didn't hurt. There were the chatting of voice from all around, gathering around them. The mother ran down the stairs and strangers began to crowd about. Andrew.
~~~
The mother thanked Nina and Andrew profusely while apologizing for her son. There streaks of mascara running down her cheeks. The boy smiled and waved goodbye as they walked away.
"Woaah..." Nina let out a sigh, "Phew. That scared me! But it's great that it didn't end up as an accident!" She smiled at Andrew. He remained silent. "I'm sorry, Andrew. Thank you for hel-..."
Smack!
The man pinched both her cheeks. "To be able to help someone is a really amazing side of yours, but doing it so that you expose yourself to danger is something I absolutely won't think is right." He's mad. "Don't ever do that again... I beg you..." He let go of her cheeks.
"...Sor-..." She was on the verge of tears.
"Even though I said that, it's not very persuasive because I used my body to rescue you right then, too. I'm such a bad adult," he smiled gently at her. She cried. "Let's go home."
~~~
It was a long quiet walk home. The little girl held one hand onto the coat tail of the young man, wiping her tears away with her free hand.
"I also lied to you before," Andrew started, "That tuna and pickle sandwich girl... was my first girlfriend. It was a lie that I forgot about her. I didn't want to tell the truth, so I lied. Sorry." He didn't face her. Nina looked up at the back of his head.She died in an accident on the stairs by the train station. She wanted to support a pregnant woman who was on the verge of falling, and she fell instead. Only the pregnant woman was saved," he turned around and smiled at Nina. "Her actions scarily resemble yours. She was like a hero." He away from her again and up into the sky, "...back then... why did I... let go of her hand? ... I can't possibly forget about it."
~~~
"Someone who can't lie has it hard." Surely, the truth is, more than anyone, someone who can lie is the one who has it hard.
~~~
"Andrew," Nina stopped.
"Huh?" He turned around.
And with all the courage she had in that tiny body of hers... "I love you. Please go out with me."
~~~
You know, I... I want to be happy with you this time as well.
~~~
Seconds passed... then minutes...
He inhaled the chilly autumn wind, "I'm sorry. I have as person who I've been loving all these ten years."
~~~
Even to a kid... The man in which he said it was polite. He didn't lie either. You are very sweet.
~~~
"Yeah, it's fine." She said, taking his hand, smiling brightly at him.
~~~
It can't be helped. Shall we start again from an unrequited love?
~~~
"Hey, Andrew. I definitely won't die before you." I won't ever let you be alone.
He smiled sheepishly, "...as if I'd let someone fifteen years younger die before me," he chuckled. "Will you eat dinner at my place?" Nina smiled and nodded, yes. "What do you want to eat?"
"A tuna and pickle sandwich."
~~~
I'll make you fall in love with me.
Nina ran to Andrew's house again, climbing over the fence. He was sleeping on the deck with Chickidee snuggled against his stomach.
"Huh?" Andrew woke up finding his head on the lap of a ten year old, "Woah! What is this?!" He sat up in shock.
"Whoops! No can do! Sleep!" She pulled his head back down. "Do you need me to sing read you a bed time story?"
"Please stop it, you're scaring me."
"I'm pretty good. I've read many stories to my little brother."
"I feel like I remember that line from somewhere..." Andrew grumbled, rolling onto his side and sighing. Nina smiled.
"This is nice... we're like newlyweds."
"So I have a lolita complex... Stop it..." he rolled his eyes.
"Hm?" She looked down at his ear facing towards her. "WHY CAN I SEE THROUGH THIS EARLOBE?!!!"
"Ah... I guess it's expanded quite a bit now."
Nina panicked, "This is the first time I've noticed it... When did you get it?"
"In the third year of middle school I think..." After Hillary died. "The me at that time turned into a masochist in an instant. I couldn't eat anything for who knows how many days. Ahh, and then, I pierced it!"
"...did it hurt?"
"At first."
"How about now?"
"The wound is gone. It doesn't bleed anymore, either. Now there's just a hole there." The image of her former self and Andrew flashed in her head. The things she lost. Nina stood up immediately. "Ouch!" Andrew hit his head on the wooden deck. "Ow..." he rubbed the back of his head. "Hey, why'd you get up so suddenly...?" The little girl couldn't speak. She just looked down at him with a blank stare as tears flows freely from her eyes. She ran.
"NINA?!"
~~~
You're not talking about the piercing. It... it's not a wound, it can't be healed. The hole left by Hillary's passing, has become far too large.
Until now, this person has always been alone.

Story Time with Dolce! Part 5
"Nina! Welcome back!"
My neighbor, Mrs. Nancy Wilson, who is also the school lunch lady, = equals, Andrew's colleague.
Nina's mother was standing outside her house chatting, "This girl you know, sticks to Mr. Daniel's like glue!" Her mother giggled.
"MOOOOOM!"
"Ah, the perks of being a child!" The lunch lady laughed, "Drew's rate of success is high because he's the lunchroom idol!" There was a burst of laughter from both of the women. "Ah, but it looks like he had a steady girlfriend for a long time."
"How come you know that, Nancy?" The two began to gossip again.
"Well, I heard a bit at a drinking part," she smiled sheepishly.
~~~
"I think I might have lost something," Andrew downed another glass of beer.
"What?" Mrs. Wilson asked, confused by his words.
"In some way, my ability to love someone, it seems," he looked out the window.
"Oh now, what are you saying?" Mrs. Smith continued.
~~~
Her mother shifted her weight, waiting for the explanation. "It looks like when he was a middle schooler, he had his heart broken greatly," Mrs. Wilson said.
~~~
"I probably already... don't have the strength to love anyone anymore."
~~~
Nina froze in place, looking down.

Story Time with Dolce! Part 4
"Shall we go home together?" A fifteen year old Andrew waited for Hillary outside the classroom of the student council.
The two walked silently down that same paved road. Not hand in hand, but just at the same speed. WHY IS IT SO QUIET?! Hillary was freaking out on the inside. Lately, I can't stand the silence whenever we see each other! "Ah! I've forgot to return Laura's book, so I'll go and return it! So you can go ahead of me, Andrew!" She looked flustered. "Go on ho-..." He grabbed her hand and continued walking forward. Hillary began to blush. She was only glad that he wasn't looking at her. No, no, no, no, no. It's impossible, impossible, impossible. She could feel her heartbeat in her ears. Or rather, just say SOMETHING!
"Huh?" She looked up. Andrew was a red as a tomato as he looked down at the pavement. Her thoughts went silence as she too walked in silence. The thumping of her heart only seemed to ring louder in her ears.
~~~
From that day onward, the two of us always held hands while walking home. We couldn't tell each other "I love you," or "go out with me," or "let's go out." But even so, we certainly understood each other's feelings.
~~~
And yet...
~~~
COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO~
Young Nina pouted as she diligently cleaned up the chicken pen in self serving silence. Andrew squatted at the corner of the pen with a full grown chicken on his head, staring at the girl, wondering what was wrong.
"Nina, have you eaten breakfast?" He held up an egg. "Chickidee's special omelet."
"I don't need it..."
"Why not?"
"Because I'm on a diet..." The little girl continues to pout. But I really want to eat it.
Andrew smiled, "If you lose any more weight, you'll lose more of your cuteness, you know?" The young man knelt down and tilted his head to see her face.
"Eh?" Nina's face went beet red. Damn it! Before she even knew it she was already sitting down in the dining room, waiting for a meal. Ugh, my past love is my weakness. Nina's face remained red. She turned around seeing Andrew cooking in the kitchen. She noticed how large his shoulders had become. Ah, he's an adult.
~~~
I made a petty lie because I'm a kid. He knew I was lying, but kept quiet because Andrew is an adult.
~~~
"Here, make sure you eat a lot," he set down a plate in front of her, "Oh,wait a minute. Ketchup... ketchup..." He walked to the kitchen looking for the bottle.
~~~
Now, the only one whose heart is beating like crazy, is me.
~~~
"It was a lie," Nina said.
"Huh?" Andrew turned around.
"That thing about dieting is a lie. I was sulking and I wanted to trouble you, but I didn't want to tell the trust so I lied." She stared him in the eyes as she said this. "I'm sorry."
"Wow... Well done..." Andrew looked at her in awe, "your parents taught you well."
"Stop treating me like a child!" She puffed out her cheeks.
"That's not it," he patted her head, "I'm telling you that because you're a good girl," he smiled. She blushed in response. "Someone who can't like has it hard."
Hard? "Not really... there's nothing hard about it." Andrew chuckled at her response.
"Is that so?"
~~~
What is "hard?"

"Here, make sure you eat a lot," he set down a plate in front of her, "Oh,wait a minute. Ketchup... ketchup..." He walked to the kitchen looking for the bottle.
~~~
Now, the only one whose heart is beating like crazy, is me.
~~~
"It was a lie," Nina said.
"Huh?" Andrew turned around.
"That thing about dieting is a lie. I was sulking and I wanted to trouble you, but I didn't want to tell the trust so I lied." She stared him in the eyes as she said this. "I'm sorry."
"Wow... Well done..." Andrew looked at her in awe, "your parents taught you well."
"Stop treating me like a child!" She puffed out her cheeks.
"That's not it," he patted her head, "I'm telling you that because you're a good girl," he smiled. She blushed in response. "Someone who can't like has it hard."
Hard? "Not really... there's nothing hard about it." Andrew chuckled at her response.
"Is that so?"

What is "hard?"

Story Time with Dolce! Part 3
"Me?" Andrew looked up from the tomato in his hand, "What did I promise you? Or rather, in the sixth grade? You're still in the fourth grade, right?"
Nina froze, giving him a sheepish look, "Andrew do you have a girlfriend?" Her arms starting moving in double time as she swept the den with all the might her tiny body could muster.
"What's with that all of a sudden?"
"It's a secret."
"Then, what's your time? Say something..."
"Well..." he looked down solemnly at the eggplants he was about to pick, "a girl who can eat a tuna and pickle sandwich gracefully." Nina turned around to look at his back, "In the past, even though she was super energetic and rough, she could eat a tuna and pickle sandwich gracefully without dripping anything on her hands or plate. And somehow, she was still a fast eater."
~~~
That's... about Hillary...?
~~~
"Did- Did you like her that much? That girl..." Nina forced a smile. She stopped sweeping.
~~~
I didn't know anything. But you... you sill remember such small things...
~~~
"Who knows?" he replied, "I've already forgotten," Andrew didn't turn back to look the girl in the eyes. But for an instant. It felt like my heart was frozen.
Nina dropped the broom. "I heard... the sound of a heart breaking..." it sounded like she was on the verge of tears.
"Eh? Nina?" Andrew turned around from petting Chickidee.
"HARDWARE MALFUNCTION!" She ran away as fast as she could.
"Are you okay?!" He immediately stood up and turned in the child's direction. "Your arms and legs are swinging at the same side, you know?" he shouted.
"I'M GOING HOME!" Nina called, not facing backwards.
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP He could hear the sound of a car honking the at the girl.
"What did I do this time?" he scratched his head confused.
~~~
It's fine, It's fine! The one he loved was my past self. It's not like he still has feelings for me now! But... But Hillary, your boyfriend is so heartless!
~~~
"I've already forgotten." Those words echoed in Nina's ears over and over and over again.
~~~
I know I died, but that's just too mean.
The rush of tiny footsteps could be heard from afar, "here... I... Go?! Waaah! Chickidee!" The girl almost fell onto the hen if it wasn't for a last minute save, "Wha-...............?" She was dazed for a second before realizing she had landed on the owner of the frightened chicken.
"You little monkey! How many times have I told you not to climb the wall?!" Andrew pinched her cheeks.
"Erm surwy..."
"What would you do if you injured yourself?" He let go and patted the dirt off of her clothes. "Are you hurt anywhere?"
"My cheeks," she held her hands up to the sides of her face.
"If it's just there, then it's fine."
~~~
Soon it'll be half a year sine I've moved to this town. That person is Andrew Daniels (25), the resident of the house beside mine. He's a nutritionist who goes back and forth to my grade school where he harvests vegetables from the kitchen garden behind it.
~~~
"Sorry for surprising you Chickidee. I'll make your den extra clean today, so forgive me?" The little girl spoke with the hen.
~~~
I volunteered to raise Chickidee so I could come to this garden every morning. I've always... always wanted to meet this person.
~~~
"You're a very hard worker. You do excellent work everyday for the animals. I'm thankful," He picked a tomato from the vine.
"That's because... we made a promise didn't we? In the sixth grade."
~~~
I haven't forgotten.
~~~
"Look, look, Andrew! Oh my gosh! They're so cute going CHEEP CHEEP!" Hillary, fourteen years old, knelt down, pointing at the day old chicks at the stand in the outdoor bazaar.
"My grandfather owned some in the past. We have a shed in the garden."
"What, REALLY? The let's take care of some again!"
"Huh?" Andrew's jaw dropped in awe, "What?"
"The two of us, let's raise them together!"
"You better not cop out and force me to do it alone though."
"Fine, it's a promise!"
~~~
Hillary couldn't keep that promise.

Story Time With Dolce! Part 1
It was supposed to be our first meeting, yet I was certain I already knew you...
~~~
"Oh no. Oh no!" The ball flew over the large brick fence, "Hup," a little girl grunted as she jumped from the branch to the brick wall.
"Is this yours?" There was a man on the other side, holding her ball.
"I'm Nina Doyle, age 10. Nice to meet you!" She dropped her ball, taking hold of his hand.
"I'm Andrew Daniels." I know.
~~~
From a long time ago, even before I was born... I loved you in my past life.
~~~
I had always wanted to be Andrew's bride. I was boyish when I was a kid, so being with someone I loved at a warm dining table was something I could only ever dream of. Hillary Simmons died at the tender age of fifteen. Andrew's love who passed away ten years ago... was my past self.
